Multicultural Considerations in Assessing and Treating Hispanic Americans who Stutter

The purpose of this paper is to provide speech-language pathologists with information that addresses multicultural perceptions about stuttering and suggestions for the assessment and treatment of stuttering in Hispanic Americans. The psychometric properties of the Stuttering Inventory for Hispanic Americans are discussed. Results indicate that this scale is reliable and valid. Overall, Hispanic Americans had positive perceptions about stuttering. Suggestions for evaluation and treatment of stuttering are provided.
