Ban on Hearing Aids Is Forcing Out Veteran New York City Police Officers

After years of informally allowing officers to wear hearing aids, and even paying for some, the department in late 2009 began enforcing a ban on the hearing devices, forcing older officers who had them to retire and instructing younger officers to stop wearing them at work.

  1. Definitely a highly controversial case… meanwhile other occupations have an even higher incidence of hearing loss and see almost no support.

    Hearing Loss incidence at the age of 50:
    Firefighters: 30%
    Carpenters: 44%
    Army: 50%
    Construction: 60%
    Mining: 60%
